Vernon L. "Sonny" Amberg

Vernon L. "Sonny" Amberg, 77, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Mercy Health Center Emergency Room. He was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Chanute, Kan., the son of Merle Amberg and Edith McBride Amberg. Sonny grew up in Girard and later lived in Mound City and Uniontown prior to moving to Fort Scott in 2003. In his earlier years, Sonny enjoyed bicycling and had competed in and won area races. He also enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and listening to music, especially Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Survivors include two brothers, Ronald Amberg and Merle Amberg, both of Paradise, Calif.; and a sister, Beulah Taylor, Turlock, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.

There was cremation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at the Fort Scott Manor. Private burial will take place at a later date in the Girard Cemetery.
