Shrine Bowl tradition continues

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Fort Scott High School senior Daniel Durbin (center) receives his formal invitation to participate in the 39th Kansas Shrine Bowl, which will be held July 29 at Emporia State University, from Harold Bryan (right) of the board's board of directors at the high school commons Tuesday morning. The Shrine Bowl benefits Shriner's Hospitals across the country and a trip for the players in the annual all-star football game to the center in St. Louis is often a part of the experience of participation. Participation by a Fort Scott player is almost an annual tradition, Bryan pointed out. Head coach Bob Campbell (left) has been involved in several games as a coach. "It's a great honor," Durbin said. "Being selected to be in the Shrine Bowl is a big deal. We went over how the bowl sponsors the hospitals and how it's a big fundraiser." (Scott Nuzum/Tribune)
