Her childhood years were lived in Arkansas and when she was 16 the family moved to Nevada, Mo. Faye graduated from Nevada High School in 1939, achieving state honors in shorthand. She married Oscar L. Covey on Dec. 24, 1939. Their first years together were in Nevada, moving to Butler, Mo., and finally to 752 S. Lowman in Fort Scott in 1953.
Faye was an outstanding seamstress and organist for many years at churches and special events in Fort Scott. She taught many area students the joy of playing the piano. She worked at the Western Insurance Co. for 28 years as a legal secretary and was brought out of retirement to assist in the transition of the company sale to American States.
Faye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were one of her greatest joys.
Surviving Faye are three children: one son, James Covey and wife, Delores, of Fort Scott; two daughters, Barbara Belger and husband, Bill, of Spearman, Texas, and Karen Billiard and husband, Ron, of Fort Scott. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Robin Hartman and Brad, Fort Scott, Tonya Barnes and Kevin, Yates Center, Kan., Jamie Belger, Tulsa, Okla., Jennifer Covey, Hot Springs, Ark., and John Saldivar and Wendy of Fort Scott; six great-grandchildren, Grant Hartman and Heather, Chesterfield, Mo., Brett Hartman, Fort Scott, Jonathan Barnes, Yates Center, Kan., Tehlyr and Kehlyn Covey, Hot Springs, Ark., and Lily Saldivar. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Oscar; two sisters, Mildred Cartwright and Opal Covey; and two brothers, Woodrow Simmons and Dennis Simmons.
The Rev. Donna Clark-Fuller will conduct funeral services 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, at the St. John's United Methodist Church, Fort Scott, with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30, Monday, May 21, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
