Boys win more medals, girls finish higher at Chanute

CHANUTE -- Fort Scott High School's boys collected more medals at the Thad Clements Invitational here Friday but the girls came away with a higher place in team standings.

Fort Scott's boys won 13 medals, all of them third, fourth or fifth places. They finished in sixth place in the standings. Chanute was the team champ with 83 points, just one ahead of Colgan.

Tiger girls won eight medals, but two of them were firsts. They finished fifth as a team. Pittsburg was the dominant winner with 155 points followed by Chanute with 118.

Katren Rienbolt was the winner of both girls' first-place medals. She finished the 1,600-meter run in 5:28.09 and the 3,200 in 11:46.61.

The Tigers won two third-place medals. Brianne Lawrence went 99 feet, 5 inches in discus. Jillian Lattimer heaved the shot put 35' 3".

Fort Scott picked up three fourths. Paige Denton won two of them, going 2:35.90 in the 800 meters and 5:38.63 in the 1,600. Mallory Shelton cleared 4' 10" in high jump.

The Tigers' final medal was won by Maddie Barbour, sixth in triple jump at 29' 4 3/4".

The boys won three medals in javelin. Cody McGehee was third with a best effort of 147' 6". David Goff followed in fourth at 144' 7" and Chris Allen was fifth at 142' 9".

Race Kastl was third in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.70. Nick Nuzum took third in the long jump at 20' 4 3/4. Brady Fink was third in the 400 in 51.03, fourth in the 200 in 24.08 and fifth in high jump at 5' 8". Daniel Durbin was third in shot put with a mark of 46' 0 1/4".

Dezmund Willard finished fourth in the 100 meters in 11.16 seconds while Nuzum came in fifth in 11.17. The Fort Scott 4x100 relay finished fourth in 45.26. Finally, Robert Sellers claimed fifth in the 3,200 in 11:13.60.

Fort Scott will compete in the 83rd edition of the Southeast Kansas Relays Thursday at Iola.
