COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's baseball team split a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader with Coffeyville here Thursday, making the third straight outing the Tigers have had to settle for one win on the day.
Fort Scott (5-5 SEK, 6-7 overall) won game one 6-1. Coffeyville (3-9, 6-10) took the second game 9-8.
The Tigers never trailed in the opener as Mason Knopp allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks in going the distance on the mound, striking out 6 batters.
Fort Scott led 4-0 after three innings and added 2 more in the top of the sixth inning. Coffeyville scored its lone run in the seventh.
Zach Denton and Justin Uhler each had 2 hits for the Tigers.
Fort Scott led 5-0 after 1 1/2 innings of the second game. But the Golden Tornado tied the score in the bottom of the second inning and later took the lead with 4 in the fourth.
The Tigers tried to rally, putting up 3 runs in the top of the sixth. Jacob Durossette reached on a one-out error and Brent Parsons followed up with a single. Both runners scored on Luke Brown's triple. Brown came in on Knopp's sacrifice fly. A ground out to shortstop ended the inning and the Fort Scott went out in order in the top of the seventh.
Parsons, Brown, Knopp and Dustin Stewart each had 2 of Fort Scott's 12 hits.
The Tigers faced Nevada at Lions Field Friday afternoon.
