Tigers settle for split with LCHS

The Fort Scott High School baseball team had to settle for a split with Labette County in Southeast Kansas League play at Lions Field Friday night.

The Tigers won the opener 6-5 in eight innings as Clayton Hixson scored the winning run on Benjamin Labbe's 2-out double. But LCHS took the second game 11-5.

LCHS led 3-0 after 3 1/2 innings but the Tigers tied it with 3 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Grizzlies led 5-4 going into the bottom of the seventh. Luke Brown reached base for the Tigers with one out in the inning. Jake Durossette and Zach Denton got back-to-back singles, allowing Brown to score.

Ryan Pickert (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Tigers (3-3 SEK, 4-5 overall), pitching the top of the eighth, allowing one hit and striking out one. Mason Knopp allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out six over the first seven innings.

Durossette want 3 for 4 for Fort Scott scoring twice.

Labette County (5-4, 7-6) scored 3 runs in the first and second innings of game two. Fort Scott got within 6-3 after 5 innings only to see LCHS score 3 more in the top of the sixth.

Denton scored 2 runs for the Tigers. Durossette, Knopp, Brent Parsons, and Dustin Stewart each had one of Fort Scott's 4 hits.

The Tigers go to Coffeyville Thursday for an SEK doubleheader then play a single varsity game against Nevada Friday at Lions Field.
