Eagles tally 42 runs in just six innings

MORAN -- Uniontown's softball team outscored rival Marmaton Valley 42-2 in a Three Rivers League doubleheader here Monday. Even more remarkable is that due to run rules, the entire doubleheader lasted six innings.

The Eagles (9-1 TRL, 10-2 overall) didn't actually get many hits as Marmaton Valley's pitchers suffered from wildness. Torrie Hathaway was the only Uniontown batter with 2 hits in the first game and Hope Jurgensen was the only Eagle with 2 hits -- including a double -- in the nightcap.

Uniontown won the opener 23-2, scoring 15 runs in the third inning. Taylor Wade (5-1) allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.

Game two finished with a 19-0 score after three innings. Seven runs crossed the plate in the top of the second and 8 more in the third. Mandie Ridge (5-1) allowed no hits and no walks while striking out one.

"Our pitchers pitched exceptionally well today," Eagle head coach Alan Shinn said. "Mandie faced the minimum number of batters, nine. In the first inning, Marmaton Valley's second hitter was hit by a pitch and then was promptly thrown out while attempting to steal second.

"Our defense was excellent today."

The Eagles host Hume, Mo., in a non-league doubleheader at 4:30 Thursday at Uniontown's George Warren Field.
