Auction on the schedule

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

With warm weather approaching, the time for spring cleaning is here. As residents identify the things they no longer need, Presbyterian Village reminds of the adage, "One person's trash is another person's treasure," and urges residents to consider donating that "treasure" to Presbyterian Village for its annual auction fundraiser.

"You may look at it and see junk, but your neighbors may look at it and see a collectible or a useful tool or the start to a new hobby," Executive Director Ginger Dierksen said in a news release. Stop by during regular business hours, in the evening or on weekends, to drop off your donation at 2401 S. Horton. For pick-up and delivery of heavy items, call (620) 223-5550 to make arrangements.

"Used hobby items are always popular at the auction, such as the set of golf clubs you no longer use, fishing tackle, that flat-bottom boat that's been sitting out back untouched for a few years, knick-knacks and even some of those old farm equipment pieces you don't use anymore," Dierksen said. "The possibilities are endless, and everything will go at the auction, including that vintage jewelry you haven't worn in centuries and the old furniture pieces you plan to replace with your income tax return. Now's the time to clean out the old and pass it on to someone who can use it. Remember, items don't have to be old, new items are appreciated, as well."

Presbyterian Village's annual dinner and auction will take place in May. Proceeds stay local and go to the facility's Good Samaritan Fund, which helps residents who have outlived their financial resources. A not-for-profit retirement community, Fort Scott Presbyterian Village is celebrating its 18th year of service to Bourbon County and the surrounding area. It is part of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America's system of 18 communities in Kansas and Missouri.

With 62 years of quality retirement community living experience, PMMA is headquartered in Wichita.
