Etta Mae (Toms) Matlock, 79, of Farlington, Kan., died at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, Kan.

She had been in failing health for several years.

She was born April 6, 1932, in Arlington, Kan., a daughter of Frank A. and Tula P. (Stucky) Toms.

She grew up and attended schools in Arlington. She received her cosmetology degree from Fort Scott Community College.

She married William Keith Matlock on Oct. 15, 1949, in Fort Scott and they were married for 58 years. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2008.

She owned and operated a beauty shop in Farlington for 15 years and worked as a hairdresser at the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard for over 20 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Farlington, and she attended the Diamond Community Church in Fort Scott.

She enjoyed her family and attending the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, flower gardening, raising dogs, cooking and making pies.

Survivors are daughters Karen Leigh Matlock of Springfield, Mo., Kathleen Mary Nalley of Fort Scott, and Keitha Marie Dodson of Fredonia, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers Eugene Toms of California and Frank Toms of Texas; a sister Sondra Ferguson of Tulsa, Okla.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Hugh Matlock, on April 26, 1986, and a sister, Patricia Fowler.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Farlington with Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Farlington Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after p.m. on Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Children's Fund at the United Methodist Church in Farlington or the Activities Fund at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John, Box 258, Girard, Kan., 66743.
