Ruritan sponsors donation

Thursday, March 29, 2012

Elsmore Ruritan Club will sponsor a chili/soup supper Saturday at the Elsmore community building from 5 to 7 p.m.

Club members will serve homemade chili along with a variety of homemade soups including broccoli/cheese and vegetable plus cornbread and crackers, a dessert and drink for a free-will donation.

Tickets will be sold for dessert drawings throughout the evening. Monies will go to the club's scholarship fund.

Each year the club participates in the Ruritan National Build Your Dollars scholarship program. Last year the club awarded more than $1,000 in college scholarships.

Elsmore Ruritan Club is a community service club with 27 members, including three youth members.

The club supports the Allen County Fair, Marmaton Valley High School organizations, Moran, Bronson, Stark and Savonburg days and youth activities sponsored by Allen County Law Enforcement and Iola Police Department.

The club sponsors Independence Day and Elsmore Day celebrations, ice cream socials at Moran Manor Nursing Center and a dog/cat vaccination clinic.

Members help area residents with tree removal, household chores, building and razing projects and with monetary donations.

The club has helped the past three years with development of the city of Elsmore playground project and has helped with renovation of the community building to accommodate the fitness equipment. Members annually do cleanup of areas around the Bourbon/Allen County lake.

The Elsmore Community Health & Fitness Center is also located in the community building and will be open to the public.

The city of Elsmore, through a Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City grant, purchased a treadclimber, elliptical, stationary bike, exercise benches/weights and exercise ball.

Area residents are also invited Saturday to bring used books to exchange at a book swap.
