LYONS

Homer Paul Lyons, 91, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Mercy Hospital.

He and his twin brother, Howard, were born Feb. 28, 1921, to Paul Irvin Lyons and Roxie Mary Cary Lyons on the family farm north of Metz, Mo., the site which is now the McGinnis Youth Center.

He was educated in the rural public schools and graduated from Metz High School.

He married Clara Margaret Easton on July 25, 1943, in Wichita, Kan. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 2010.

He proudly served our country in the Civil Air Patrol and then in the Army Air Corps as a B-29 flight engineer instructor during WWII.

Following his discharge from the Army, Homer and Clara bought a farm in Vernon County. They began operating a grade A dairy farm and farming in Metz Township.

He was very active in church and community activities, having served on the Metz school board for a number of years.

Following their retirement from the farm, Homer and Clara moved to Fort Scott, where he worked in real estate and was a member of the American Legion.

Homer was a member of the Community Christian Church and active in the 55 plus program there.

Survivors include four daughters, Helen Lyons, Mililani, Hawaii, Nancy Thompson and husband JaWan, Moundville, Mo., Debby Wilson, Nevada, Mo., and Sheryl Torres, Fort Scott; one sister, Madge Baze, Nevada; and one brother, Howard Lyons, Horton, Mo.

Also surviving are four grandsons, five granddaughters, four great grandsons, one great granddaughter, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Lyons; and sons-in-law Danny Torres and Jerry Wilson.

Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel.
