Cannon arraignment reset

Thursday, March 8, 2012

An arraignment and possible plea for Kimberly Cannon has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m. March 28 before Bourbon County District Judge Mark Ward.

This follows an appearance before the judge on Wednesday where Cannon's attorney, Mark Eric Fern of Pittsburg, requested the proceeding be reset. Fern has another client whose court dates overlapped with Cannon's.

Cannon, a former paraeducator at Fort Scott High School, has been charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child, criminal sodomy and indecent liberties with a child.

Cannon was arrested in October 2011 by the Fort Scott Police Department on a Bourbon County warrant.

The incidents that Cannon is charged with participating in took place earlier that month, court documents said.

The charges are a result of an investigation conducted by the Fort Scott Police Department.

The charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and criminal sodomy are both severity level three felonies that carry a minimum sentence of 55 months and maximum sentence of 247 months.

The charge of indecent liberties with a child is a severity level five felony that carries a minimum sentence of 31 months and maximum sentence of 136 months.

Cannon's last day with the school was Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011.

She had worked for the district since August 2002. She remains in custody at the Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center.
