Fort Scott sophomore Katren Reinbolt (22) is mobbed by teammates and head coach Jeff Armstrong after sinking a game-winning 8-foot shot with 6-10ths of a second remaining in the second overtime against Labette County at the FSHS gymnasium Thursday night. The shot gave Fort Scott a 54-53 victory in their final home game of the season.

If you ask Katren Rienbolt how she managed to make the game-winning shot with six-tenths of a second on the clock in the second overtime of Thursday night's 54-53 victory over Labette County, she might not be able to tell you.

"It was overwhelming," Rienbolt said. "I can't really remember what happened. It was just so ... amazing."

Labette County's Sadie Atkins intercepted a pass with 14 seconds to go in double OT and drew a foul with 9.5 seconds left. But she made just one of the two free throws, which made it 53-52.

Mallory Shelton caught a pass on the right side of the lane turned and saw Rienbolt over to her left. Rienbolt caught Shelton's pass about eight feet out on the left side of the lane.

Caught it, shot it, made it.

Rienbolt finished with 19 points to lead the Tigers (5-3 Southeast Kansas League, 8-12 overall) just two nights after struggling to make shots in a loss to Pittsburg. Rienbolt also made a key free throw to tie the score at 52-52 with 1:05 left in the second overtime after she had missed her previous seven attempts.

"You just have to put those things aside, keep on looking forward and tell yourself, 'I can get back in this,'" Rienbolt said. "Have confidence and do it."

Brianne Lawrence finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.

Shelbie Foister led Labette County (6-2, 15-5) with 22 points, making a running 3-pointer from the left side of the court as time ran out in regulation to tie the score at 48-48. Tiara Ford scored 17 points while Michaela O'Brien added 8.

Those three Grizzlies fouled out at either the end of regulation or during overtime and LCHS head coach Kristi Snider found herself having to use players in the OTs who hadn't played in regulation.

Foister scored the only field goal of the first OT with 1:55 on the clock to put LCHS up 50-48. But Shelton made a pair of free throws with 39 seconds remaining.

Aubrey Kimbrough, who didn't enter the game until the first OT, tied the score at 52-52 on a layup with 54 seconds left in the second extra session.

The loss was Labette County's second in a row as the Grizzlies also fell to Iola on Tuesday night. When Parsons defeated Coffeyville 54-32, LCHS was denied a share of the Southeast Kansas League championship. Instead, Parsons (7-1, 15-5) won its first SEK title since 1993 and it's first solo crown. The Vikings also tied for the championship in 1985 and 1986.

Ford tied the score at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. But the Tigers scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second to take a 10-point lead. LCHS scored the final 6 of the half to get within 24-20.

Maddi Allen put the Tigers up 33-28 with a 3-point shot with 35 seconds left in the third. Ford and O'Brien scored consecutive hoops in the final 25 seconds to bring LCHS within 2.

Labette County tied the score two other times in the fourth quarter but never took the lead.

The Tigers, who finished fourth in the SEK, will go to Louisburg Monday night for a first-round Class 4A Sub-State game. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
