William James "Bill" Sampson Sr., 54, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at his home.

He was born March 31, 1957, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Harry C. Sampson Jr. and Wilma June Burch Sampson.

Bill married Mary Lynn Wiggans on April 5, 1975, at Fort Scott. She preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2006.

Bill had worked for several years for the Fort Scott Water Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He attended the Margrave Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, William Sampson Jr. and wife Jennifer; a daughter, Heather Sampson; and a granddaughter, KaitLynn Sampson, all of Fort Scott.

Also surviving are his mother, Wilma Sampson, of Devon, Kan.; and five sisters, Barbara Pack, Stambaugh, Ky., Frances Lewis, Karen Farmer and Carol Keele, all of Bronson, Kan., and Shirley Monroe, Devon, Kan.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father and his faithful dog Champ.

Pastor Randy Wells will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Clarksburg Cemetery.
