Cowley's men jumped out to a 25-5 lead in the first 7 1/2 minutes of play Wednesday night and went on to a 76-41 victory over Fort Scott Community College at Arnold Arena in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division opener for both teams.

This was Fort Scott's fourth-lowest point total of the season. The Greyhounds (0-1 East, 1-12 overall) have been held to 40 twice and managed only 36 against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Nov. 22.

The Tigers (1-0, 11-2), who won their sixth consecutive game, made 7 of their first 11 shots from 3-point range on their way to taking their big early lead. But the 'Hounds fought back and managed to get within 39-25 by halftime.

Fort Scott was still within 13 points, 52-39 after Tony McGilveary's basket with 10:51 remaining in the contest. But the 'Hounds managed just one more field goal the rest of the way as Cowley outscored them 24-2 to end the game. The 'Hounds did not score again after Julian Mills' basket with 4:54 remaining and the Tigers scored the game's final 13 points.

McGilveary, coming off the bench in this game, led Fort Scott with 15 points. Derrick Thomas followed with 9.

James Milliken made 6 of 9 shots from the floor in leading Cowley with 18 points. Adonis Bailey added 13 and three others -- Kamren Belin, Curtis Evans and Gavin Brown -- added 8 each.

Cowley shot 48 percent from the floor, making 28 of 58 field-goal attempts. Fort Scott was held to 33 percent on 13 of 40 and made just 2 of 16 3-point tries.

Cowley outrebounded Fort Scott, 44-23. Mills led the 'Hounds with 5 boards while also handing out 6 assists and picking up a pair of steals.

The Greyhounds will host Allen Saturday at 4 p.m. at Arnold Arena.
