Coetta Louise Young, 84, of Fort Scott passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the Mercy Health Center.

She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Edward and Faye Belle (Hopper) Elkins.

She married Merle Albert Young Sr. June 2, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kan. He preceded her in death June 19, 1998.

She graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1943 and also graduated from Fort Scott Community College.

She then went on to work at the Western Insurance in data entry.

Coetta is survived by her children; Jonathan Young of Minneapolis, Minn., Marsha Woodhouse of Chicago, Ill., Merle Young Jr. of Topeka, Kan., and Philip Young of Fort Scott; a sister, Irma Lou Adams; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Graveside services for Coetta will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
