Friday, December 2, 2011

WILLARD, Mo. -- Senior Daniel Durbin scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter Thursday night as Fort Scott High's boys held off Arkansas Baptist, 56-55, on the first day of the Willard Tri-State Classic.

Fort Scott's girls led early but watched Arkansas Baptist pull away late for a 57-41 win.

Durbin had to sit out the first half of the boys' contest as head coach Jeff DeLaTorre told KOMB's Larry Gazaway in the pre-game show that Durbin had not taken care of some academics during the week.

But the 6' 5" senior post, who entered the game midway through the third quarter, took over in the paint in the fourth. Durbin scored all five of Fort Scott's field goals, including the game-winning shot off a pass from Cameron Woodring with six seconds remaining in the game.

Arkansas Baptist called two time outs but could not make a shot as the final horn sounded.
