James Daniel Knight, 90, a resident of Fort Scott, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at his home. He was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Coyle, Okla., the son of George Henry Knight and Maude Elizabeth Blake Knight.
James married Lily E. Heywood on Aug. 6, 1975, in Miami, Okla. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army from September 1942 to December 1945. In earlier years, he was a carpenter and helped build dormitories at Oklahoma State University. In 1968 the couple moved to the LaHarpe area where he owned his own farm. They returned to Fort Scott in 1985 from LaHarpe.
He was a life member of LaHarpe Post No. 6324 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing the guitar in the Senior Citizen's Band.
Survivors include his wife, Lily, of the home and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George E. Knight, Henry Stone Knight and Henry Thadus Knight, and one sister, Martha Alice McNamer.
Rev. Lorn Starling will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in U.S. National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W.
