RUTH BROOKER HARRISON

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Ruth Harrison (nee Brooker) died peacefully on Nov. 13, 2011. She was the beloved and cherished wife of the late Bill Harrison, who passed away in 1982, and wonderful mother and best friend of Sue Harrison (Steve Ostrander), devoted grandmother of Amy Dalton (Erik Larson, fiancée) and Bill Dalton (Julie). She was the proud great-grandmother (Grandma Ruth) to Caleb and Maddie and Bill and Julie's unborn baby, and to Emma and Demi Larson.

Ruth was a dear friend to many. Ruth is also survived and will be dearly missed by two "little" brothers, Bill and Richard Brooker, and her closest friend and sister-in-law, Carol Brooker, her sister-in-law Carolyn (the late George) Brooker, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was the daughter of the late A.J. and Mattie Louise Brooker of Fort Scott, Kan. Ruth was preceded in death by her dear sisters Marilyn, Louise, Virginia, Ellen, Frieda and Oral, and brothers Pat, George, Joe, Ervin and Clyde.

Ruth's extended family includes: Bill Dalton, the Ostrander family, her exercise class friends and Stephanie Newton and her co-workers at the Kirkwood Police Department, where Ruth proudly worked for over 30 years, until retirement at age 78.

After retirement, Ruth dedicated herself to caring for family in every way she could think of. She will always be remembered for the plants and little gifts she gave to friends, her goody bags and envelopes and her fried chicken.

We will miss you always, Grandma Ruth.

Visitation is Wednesday 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, Mo.

Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

We ask that in lieu of flowers you contribute to the Mike Bales Recover Fund in care of the Kirkwood Police Department. Mike is one of those people who touched Ruth's life briefly and with kindness, and she never forgot him.

To honor Ruth's memory, do something nice for someone.
