VIRGIL MARSHAL HAMM

Virgil Marshal Hamm of Wichita Kan., died Oct. 29, 2011, at the age of 95 at Hays Good Samaritan.

He was born July 23, 1916, in eastern Kansas. On a farm outside of Redfield, Kan., he started off with his own business as a mechanic.

Virgil moved to Wichita in 1939 where he was a supervisor at Boeing, as an engineer, for 32 years.

He was caring and very smart. Virgil built the first CB but never patented it. His hobbies included fishing, working on cars, TVs, VCRs and clocks. If anyone would need something fixed, he would try to get it working for them.

Visitation will be at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Both will be at Hillside Funeral Home East Chapel, Wichita.

Virgil is preceded in death by his wives, Dora and Millie; his son, Wayne Hamm; his brother, Loy Hamm; and his sister, Ruby, both from Colorado.

He is survived by his twin sisters, Loris Wilson, Uniontown Kan., and Doris Mason, Fort Scott, Kan.; his brother, Ben Hamm, Howard Kan.; his son, Virgil Lynn Hamm, (who shared a birthday with him) and wife Allura, Hays, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Marleen Hamm, Wichita; grandkids, Brenda Epperson, Owasso, Okla., Nikki Hamm, Enid Okla., Julia Kuntz, Hays, Kan., Sharlett Goforth, Marysville, Wash., Kurt Hamm, Wichita, and Lisa Fitzmorris, Lafayette, Ind.

He had 11 great-grandkids and four great-great-grandkids.
