Eagles sweep, clinch top seed

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's sweep of Pleasanton and Marmaton Valley here Tuesday night allowed the Eagles to clinch the top seed at Saturday's Oswego Class 2A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament.

Uniontown (23-9) has two fewer losses than second-seeded Jayhawk-Linn (23-11). The Eagles will face Marmaton Valley (12-22) in the first round at 1 p.m.

Tuesday night, the Eagles defeated Pleasanton, 25-11, 25-13. Hayden Rathbun recorded 6 kills. Tayler Shook handed out 8 assists.

Uniontown beat Marmaton Valley, 25-18, 25-13. Rathbun, Abby Dixon and Ashley Nietfeld had 6 kills each and Shook delivered 13 assists.

In junior varsity play, Uniontown swept Pleasanton, 25-16, 25-19, and Marmaton Valley, 25-13, 25-17.

If Uniontown wins in the first round Saturday, it will face the winner of the match between No. 5 seed Sedan (16-18) and No. 4 Howard-West Elk (19-13). The other first-round match-ups have No. 7 Pleasanton (13-20) taking on Jayhawk-Linn and No. 6 Northeast (15-17) facing Oswego (21-13).

One court is being used, so the first semifinal is expected to begin about 5 p.m. with the championship at 7 p.m. Long matches may cause start times to change
