Unbeaten Wellsville downs Uniontown in district opener

UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- In a battle of league champions, Pioneer League champ Wellsville defeated Three Rivers League-11 Man champ Uniontown, 44-14, here Friday night as Class 3A-District 4 play got underway.

Though the Eagles (4-3) led 7-6 after one period, Wellsville (7-0) pulled away as its running game took control. Wellsville scored 30 of its points in the second half.

Uniontown managed only 178 total yards to 417 for Wellsville, which ran 11 more offensive plays.

Garrett Murrow led the Eagles with 82 yards rushing. Jordan Woods rushed for both Uniontown scores.

Max Labbe made 11 tackles for Uniontown while Dominic Robinson and Zach Travis were each in on 8 stops.

Uniontown will travel to Pomona Friday night to take on West Franklin as district play continues.
