INDEPENDENCE, Kan. -- First-year sophomore runner Katren Rienbolt won yet another race Thursday, taking the Independence meet by about 50 seconds over the second-place finisher.
The only race Rienbolt hasn't won was the University of Kansas Invitational. She tied for third in that event, which featured runners who are among the best in Kansas and Missouri. Her time Thursday at Indy was 15 minutes, 47.71 seconds over four kilometers. Kelsie Mars of Arkansas City was second in 16:28.83.
The average mile time was provided on the report sheet sent to the Tribune. Rienbolt averaged a 6:21 mile while Mars averaged 6:37.
Robert Sellers finished 18th in the varsity boys' race, running five kilometers in 19:28.58. Kyle Altic finished in 25:00.61. Drew Baum of Labette County was the pace setter, winning in 17:07.75.
Skyler Cruse took 11th place in the boys' JV race, also a 5K, in 21:05.03. Fort Scott had no entries in the girls' JV race.
The Tigers will be in Iola Thursday for the Southeast Kansas League Championship Meet. The first race will begin at 4 p.m. at Riverside Park.
