Eagles sweep Pleasanton, Crest on 'Dig Pink' Night

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team stepped up on "Dig Pink" night here Tuesday, picking up fairly easy sweeps of Pleasanton and Crest in Three Rivers League play.

The Eagles (8-1 TRL, 20-5 overall) swept Pleasanton, 25-7, 25-9. Hayden Rathbun was credited with 7 kills, Ashlie Nietfeld with 6 and Tayler Shook with 10 assists.

"I have said this before: it is always good to play at home," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "We really took advantage of being in front of our home crowd. It was a great night of volleyball for us."

The Eagles swept Crest, 25-9, 25-16. Hayden Rathbun had 12 kills and Hope Jurgensen had 6. Shook handed out 16 assists.

"The team is becoming more comfortable with the changes we made in our lineup last week," Hall said. "I can tell they are and it shows. We really passed well and that enabled us to run our offense more effectively."

Uniontown's junior varsity played Pleasanton twice. The first time, the Eagles won 25-6, 25-9, 25-10. Mandie Ridge had 7 kills.

In the second match, the Eagles defeated the Blu-Jays, 25-15, 25-16. Torrie Hathaway had 2 kills.

Uniontown's varsity will host its annual invitational tournament Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
