Local residents injured in separate weekend wrecks
Two separate injury accidents occurred on local roads this past weekend.
A Fort Scott man was injured in a one-vehicle accident Saturday morning on Kansas Highway 7.
Tanner J. Odell, 23, Fort Scott, who was driving a 1993 F250 pickup truck west on K-7, was hurt when he fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle entered the north ditch and struck a culvert. The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. Saturday on K-7 a little more than a mile west of U.S. Highway 69, the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log said.
The report said Odell was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. He was transported to the helipad at Mercy Health Center and lifeflighted from there to another hospital, said Christina Rockhold, regional marketing & communication specialist media relations-Mercy Central Communities.
In a separate accident, a local woman was injured and a local man was reported as possibly hurt in a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on Indian Road about six miles southwest of Fort Scott.
Ashley Nicole Wolf, 22, Fort Scott, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango east on Indian Road, was hurt when a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Victor Boonthawesab, 26, Fort Scott, pulled out from a private driveway into the path of the vehicle driven by Wolf, the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log said.
The accident took place shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday on Indian Road about 4.5 miles west of U.S. Highway 69.
Wolf, who was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident, was transported to Mercy Health Center. A passenger in the Durango, Kyle Byron Barker, 20, Fort Scott, was wearing a safety restraint and was not hurt in the accident, the report said.
Boonthawesab was listed in the report as having a "possible injury." He was also taken to Mercy Health Center. Robin L. Jackson, 17, Fort Scott, a passenger in the Accord, was not wearing a safety restraint and was not hurt, the report said.
Wolf and Boonthawesab were treated and released, Rockhold said.
