I realized that this column makes my 25th edition. It seems like a pretty good number. Companies always celebrate their 25th anniversary with a huge sale or a party.
Unfortunately, I don't have a product to have a sale on, nor do I have the money to throw a huge party.
What I can do congratulate everyone out there who has worked hard to better their life and live healthier. In Fort Scott alone, there have been many opportunities through Buck Run's biggest loser contest, the Walk Kansas event, and most recently, the SEK Meltdown.
There is one person in particular who makes me evaluate my own efforts every time I see her. She is a Fort Scott native, a friend of mine from college and now lives in town. She has been super successful through Weight Watchers and has lost more than 200 pounds in two years. She has always had a tremendous personality and now she looks happier than I have ever seen her.
To everyone who has sent me an email or stopped me on the street, I thank you greatly.
Knowing that there are people around keeping tabs on what I'm doing makes it easier to succeed and harder to fail.
Now for a little audience participation: I need some help. I am trying to expand my cooking repertoire and what better way to find some new dishes than from people around me. Like many people, I have dozens of cookbooks but only make one or two things out of each one, so what I am looking for is some healthy, simple and affordable recipes to help me put it all into one location. As I get recipes, I will attempt to make them, then share them for all to enjoy, because cooking is much better when you're doing it for a large group. I'll let you know how it goes, how it tastes, any mistakes I made along the way.
Please submit recipes to me via email at email@example.com or you can mail them if you would like to P.O. Box 150, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
