Voices of Glory to perform as part of Parks celebration
The "America's Got Talent" singing sibling trio, Voices of Glory, will perform on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Ellis Family Fine Arts Center on the campus of Fort Scott Community College as part of the 8th annual Gordon Parks Celebration.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults ($15 for reserved seats) and $5 for children and students ($10 for reserved seats). FSCC students are admitted free.
Voices of Glory will be making their second appearance in Fort Scott. Last year, they played to a near-capacity audience during the Parks celebration. "We had so many people asking for us to bring them back and luckily they had an opening in their tour schedule," said Jill Warford, Gordon Parks Museum director. "Their careers are really taking off and they are planning an international tour to Germany, Asia and Africa in the next year so we were lucky to get them."
Voices of Glory's style of singing harmonies makes them stand out. Michael, 19, 15-year-old Avery and 11-year-old Nadia Cole started singing together in 2007 after their mother, Felicia, was in a head-on car collision with a drunk driver, which landed her in a coma. They serenaded their mother for months and she eventually came out of the coma and started rehabilitation. They started traveling to nursing homes and other hospitals in an effort to help other patients.
In 2009, the group beat out more than 100,000 hopefuls for a spot on the NBC hit, "America's Got Talent," and made it to the top five. In 2010, Voices of Glory performed during the pre-show of gospel music's biggest night, the 41st Annual GMA Dove Awards.
The story and the siblings' unmatched melodic and harmonic prowess not only led to their stint on "America's Got Talent," but opened doors for a recording contract, their own music show in Branson, Mo., and an opportunity to sing before a crowd of more than 18,000 at Madison Square Garden. In May 2010, the family story was aired nationally on Fox News network, as a Mother's Day weekend special. The celebration schedule is available on the center's website at www.gordonparkscenter.org. Tickets are on sale at the Gordon Parks Museum on the FSCC campus and in downtown Fort Scott at The Country Cupboard.
