Linda Charlene Townsend, 63, a resident of rural Fort Scott, Kan., died unexpectedly, early Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at her home.

She was born Aug. 14, 1948, in La Cygne, Kan., the daughter of Omar Runyan and Hazel Hinson Runyan. She married John Townsend on June 10, 1975, at Miami, Okla.

Linda had worked for the Western Insurance Company from 1979 until it was acquired by American States. She later worked as a trainer and quality control for Labconco until her retirement.

She enjoyed camping and going to casinos, as well as reading and crocheting. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband John of the home; six children, Angela Endicott and husband Jim, Fort Scott, Melissa Southard and husband Marty, Louisburg, Kan., Johnnie Townsend and wife Linda, Cookson, Okla., Teri Short and husband Gary, Christy Burnah and Donna Wasylus and husband Bruce, all of Wichita, Kan.

Also surviving are a sister, Lavon Dixon and husband Jim, Haysville, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Maxine Runyan, Evelyn Stark, Evadine Bashan and Donna Fairbanks.

Rev. Dusty Drake will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
