CHANUTE -- Uniontown's golf team finished third out of seven full teams at the Chanute Invitational here Monday. The Eagles shot 228 as a team while winner Girard finished at 199 and runner-up Caney Valley scored 207.

Individually, Uniontown had two medalists and missed having a third on tie-breakers. Timbrelee McNair of Girard was the winner with a score of 37 over nine holes. She won by 10 strokes over Chanute's Danae Decker and Caney Valley's Deseree Nelson and Tiffani Ward.

Sabrena McAnulty finished in fifth place for Uniontown. She and Columbus' Ashley Newell each shot 50 but McAnulty won the scorecard playoff.

Veronica Harrison was eighth for the Eagles with a 53. Emily Simpson, Girard's Danielle Gull and Eureka's Jennifer Moffatt all shot 54 but Gull was placed ninth on the tie-breaker, then Mofatt was placed 10th.

"I thought our girls did a really good job for playing the course for the first time and coming out with third place," Uniontown head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "We have three seniors and four first-year golfers so to place in every meet we have gone to this season so far is a success. I hope they can continue to build off what they have and see the scores come down a little bit more."

Uniontown's four-woman team score was rounded out by first-year golfer Jordan Mason, who shot 71. Also scoring for Uniontown were Sara Hieman, 72, Monica Ramsey, 73, and Anna Oberle, 83.

Fort Scott was also at this tournament with its two varsity golfers. Karley Stark shot 57, which tied for 18th best with three others. Morgan Robertson shot a season-best 61, putting her 26th.

"(Robertson) really wanted to break 60, but hopefully she'll get that at Joplin on Thursday," Fort Scott head coach Karen Curran said. "She's beginning to return to her form of last year and should start lowering her scores each time out.

"Karley shot a much better score ... but she's still not satisfied and wants to consistently score in the low 50's. She's definitely hitting her irons better and her woods right now and if we can straighten out her slice, then she'll start dropping strokes in a hurry."

Uniontown's golfers will play at Eureka today with tee time scheduled for 3 p.m.

Fort Scott's team will compete in the Galena Invitational Thursday. That tournament will be held at Shifferdecker Park in Joplin starting at 3 p.m.

NOTES -- Fort Scott sent a team to a junior varsity/rookie tournament at Galena last Friday. Natalie Wolf finished ninth with a score of 69. Maggie McDonald shot 70 in finishing 10th and Hayden Sheldon shot the same to place 11th. Emily Martin finished with a 79. No team scores were kept.

Another JV tourney is on tap for Friday at 1 p.m. in Girard....
