UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Uniontown's volleyball team opened the Three Rivers League portion of its schedule here Thursday night with sweeps of Oswego and Altoona-Midway.

"It's always nice to play at home," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "We had a great crowd and that always helps us on the floor."

The Eagles, 7-2 overall, beat Oswego, 25-17, 25-14. Tayler Shook handed out 18 assists. Hayden Rathbun recorded 5 kills and Ashley Nietfeld was credited with 3 kills and 3 blocks.

That was the first match since Hall initiated a lineup change, going to a 5-1 offense with Shook handling all the setting and moving Lauren Rockhold to a defensive specialist position.

Against Altoona-Midway, the Eagles won 25-5, 25-16, as Rathbun had 8 kills and Shook dished 16 assists.

"Our passing was greatly improved," Hall said. "Jessica Murrow and Lauren did a great job passing. That allowed Tayler to deliver great sets to our hitters."

Uniontown's junior varsity defeated Midway, 25-10, 25-11, 25-13. Emily Shinn had 4 kills.

The Uniontown varsity travels to Riverton for a quadrangular Thursday. The Eagle JV will be at Southeast Tuesday.
