Eagle volleyball off to 5-2 start

Uniontown's volleyball team finished second at the Three Rivers League tournament in Pleasanton Saturday and split a non-league quadrangular at Erie Tuesday night, putting the Eagles at 5-2 on the young season.

Uniontown began the TRL tourney with a 25-11, 25-10 sweep of Pleasanton. Hayden Rathbun had 7 kills for the Eagles while Tayler Shook handed out 10 assists and Jessica Murrow served two aces.

Next, the Eagles swept Oswego, 25-18, 25-18. Rathbun has 5 kills and 4 blocks. Shook and Lauren Rockhold dished 8 assists each. Hannah Travis had 3 blocks.

Uniontown then swept Chetopa, 25-6, 25-6. Ashley Nietfeld had 5 kills and Rockhold 7 assists. Shook and Hope Jurgensen each served 4 aces.

In the final match of pool play, Uniontown defeated Crest, 25-11, 25-16. Shook served 5 aces and handed out 7 assists. Nietfeld and Rathbun had 4 kills each and Jurgensen recorded 3 blocks.

In the championship match, Jayhawk-Linn beat Uniontown, 12-25, 25-17, 25-23. Shook had 10 assists and Rockhold had 8. Nietfeld had 8 kills and 3 blocks. Jurgensen served 3 aces.

In Tuesday's first match, Uniontown swept Erie, 25-22, 25-21. Jurgensen and Rathbun had 3 kills each. Shook dished 5 assists while Rockhold handed out 4.

Girard defeated Uniontown, 25-22, 25-20. Travis and Nietfeild had 3 kills each. Shook had 7 assists.

In Tuesday junior varsity action, Uniontown beat Erie, 25-14, 19-25, 15-11, and lost to Girard, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13.

Uniontown is idle until Sept. 8 when it will host Altoona-Midway and Oswego in league play.
