MOUND CITY -- One of the top-ranked rodeo clowns in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) will be the featured entertainment at the 2011 Linn County Fair Rodeo, Aug. 12 and 13.

John Harrison, Soper, Okla., has been selected three times to perform at the Wrangler National Final Rodeo, Las Vegas, Nev.

This year, Harrison has entertained rodeo audiences in at least a dozen states from Georgia to Oregon before returning to the WNFR in December.

Each year, the top rodeo funnymen are recognized by the PRCA in various categories, much like the Hollywood Oscars.

Harrison was second in the 2010 Coors Man in the Can category.

The Coors award program was founded in 1984 to recognize the contribution of barrel men to rodeo.

Barrel men are judged in three categories-barrel appearance, appearance and presentation in the arena and assistance in protecting the bull fighters and bull riders.

Harrison has also been selected as a finalist in the PRCA "Comedy Act of the Year" seven times and is a PRCA "Clown of the Year" finalist three times.

"Without question, John Harrison is one of the top professionals in his business," said Linn County rodeo producer Jimmy Crowther, Roxbury, Kan.

Crowther has more than 40 years of experience as a contestant and rodeo producer and "knows funny and not so funny."

"Very few rodeo clowns combine specialty acts, walk and talk comedy and barrel man responsibilities to the standard set by John Harrison."

"The Linn County Rodeo has a long tradition of booking the top rodeo specialty acts and funny men," said rodeo committee chairman Charley Johnson, Prescott. "Come out Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12-13 at 8 p.m. and enjoy the humor of John Harrison."

The 2011 Linn County Fair began with the Demolition Derby, Saturday, Aug. 6 and the Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull, Sunday, Aug. 7. Complete information is at www.linncountyfair.org or Linn County Fair & Rodeo on Facebook.
