THEODORE FORREST "TED" DILLY

Theodore Forrest "Ted" Dilly, 64, Deerfield, Mo., passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kan., following a brave battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 29, 1946, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Forrest Randall Dilly and Kathryn Jean Meyer Dilly. He married Barbara Nadine Wolfe on March 1, 1968, at the Clayton Christian Church, Eve, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Ted was born in Iowa but was raised in South Dakota. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Following the service, he came to this area and spent the rest of his life. He worked for 37 1/2 years as a route supervisor for Coca-Cola. In later years, he has worked for Producers Grain in Walker and also for Deerfield Cattle Company. Ted was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church, a member of the Coal Township Board, a past 4-H leader and honorary FFA member. He served on the Vernon County Fair Board and Sheep Committee for a number of years. He was also instrumental in remodeling the Clayton 4-H building and the Baptist Church in Deerfield.

Ted returned to South Dakota almost every year to hunt pheasants with his family. He also attended numerous livestock shows to see his grandchildren participate.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Barbara, include two children, Kevin Dilly and his wife Dolynn, Deerfield, and Amy Dilly and friend Marvin Barnes, Nevada, Mo.; five grandchildren, Devin Dilly, Evinn Dilly, Kristin Dilly and Laurin Dilly, all of Deerfield; Sara Barnes, Nevada, and two soon-to-be-born great-grandchildren; his parents, Forrest and Kathryn Dilly, Sheldon, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Dilly, Nevada, and Dan Dilly, Deerfield; and two sisters, Joyce Hinrichs, Asbury, Mo., and Sally Jones, Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Pastors Mark Mitchell and Bill Clevenger officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service, and the family receives friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the funeral home.
