Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Fort Scott's 13-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball team will be in Garden City this weekend seeking a State championship of its own. The team qualified for the State Tournament by taking a best-of-3 series from Osawatomie, 2 games to none. Both games were played July 7 with Fort Scott winning by a combined score of 42-18.

Play in the double-elimination tournament begins at noon Monday with Fort Scott taking on Mid-Kansas, the District 4 champion in the opening game.

Friday's play continues with Independence taking on Cimarron River (Liberal) at 2:30, Wellington facing Ottawa at 5 p.m. and Tri-Valley versus host Finney County at 8 p.m.

Fort Scott will face either Independence or Cimarron River in its next game Saturday. If Fort Scott wins, it will play at 5 p.m. If Fort Scott loses, it will play an elimination game at noon.

There will be four games on Saturday and Sunday. Two games will be played Monday, including the championship game at 3:30 p.m. If the team from the losers' bracket wins the championship game, another game will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.

For those who cannot attend the tournament in person, Kansas Babe Ruth will have results at http://mail.sumnercomm.net/~rwillis/13_state_.html. There is also a "Kansas Babe Ruth Leagues" page on Facebook that will feature updates from all the State tournaments.
