Bourbon County Attorney Terri Johnson's office has filed a request to prosecute a juvenile suspect as an adult in the murder of a Mapleton resident in May.

The accused 16-year-old male juvenile appeared before Bourbon County District Judge Rebecca Stephan Monday morning to determine the result of Johnson's request, made on June 6. The hearing resulted in a continuance with no decision being made. The matter is scheduled to be revisited at 9 a.m. on Aug. 31.

The juvenile, a resident of Mapleton, was charged with second degree murder on May 23 by Johnson's office after he was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of 23-year-old James C. Enloe at Hidden Valley Lake, a private recreational development in Mapleton, on May 21. Enloe was found to have suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to Mercy Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Southeast Kansas Juvenile Detention Center in Girard. He remains in custody at the SEKJDC after Stephan ordered he remain detained until the hearing, according to court documents citing the "court has found allegations contain felony" and described the suspect as a "danger to (him)self and others."
