FORT SCOTT -- Fort Scott American Legion Post 25 swept the Spring Hill Post 350 Braves in a doubleheader at Ty Cullor Field Friday night.

Fort Scott won game one 9-1 as Post 25 collected 11 hits and pitcher Matt Carrillo struck out 11 Braves. They took the second game 2-1 despite committing 6 errors.

Carrillo allowed only 6 hits and didn't walk anyone. Four of the Braves' hits came in the first two innings, leading to their lone run in the top of the first inning when Zach McCloud doubled home Ricardo Garcia with 2 outs.

Fort Scott tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Dustin Stewart knocked in Reynolds, a courtesy runner, with 2 outs.

Fort Scott went ahead in the second. Brent Parsons led off with a single but swapped placed with Zach Denton on a fielder's choice. Caleb Moore singled to right and Denton hustled to third on the play, scoring from there on Luke Brown's sacrifice fly.

The scored remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth. Jake Durossette led off the inning with a single and older brother Josh bunted him to second. Carrillo followed with a double to plate Jake Durossette. Carrillo took third on a passed ball and scored on Stewart's single to center. Stewart took second on a passed ball and went to third on Dane Cummings' single back at the pitcher. Cummings stole second and both runners scored unearned runs when Spring Hill's second baseman committed an error on Denton's 2-out grounder, making it 6-1.

Brown was hit by a pitch leading off the sixth, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brown scored when Spring Hill's shortstop led Jake Durossette's grounder get away from him. Durossette advanced to second on a wild pickoff throw. Josh Durossette reached on another error by the shortstop and stole second. The brothers scored when Carrillo dropped in a double right on the left-field foul line.

Carrillo was 3 for 3 at the plate in addition to his pitching dominance. He retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, allowing only a 2-out single in the bottom of the seventh.

Jake Durossette was 2 for 2 in the opener, scoring twice.

Post 25's defense committed 5 of the five-inning second-game errors in the first two innings and were fortunate that Spring Hill managed to score just 1 run, that coming in the top of the first.

Fort Scott took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Cummings reached on a 2-out bases-loaded error that allowed the Durossette brothers to score.

Post 25 had only 2 hits in the nightcap, one by Jake Durossette. The other by Denton.

Fort Scott used four pitchers, who combined to allow only 2 hits. Jake Durossette pitched the first two innings, allowing 1 hit and the unearned run while striking out one. Moore, Harris and Cummings each pitched an inning. None of them issued a walk.

Fort Scott's home schedule concludes Tuesday night against Wellsville Post 194 in a 6 p.m. twinbill. Regular-season play concludes with a doubleheader at Garnett Post 48 Thursday.
