As he lived, Don died quietly and peacefully. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite, Hiattville Lodge No. 216 AF & AM, Order of the Eastern Star, Chamber of Commerce, and Heart of the Heartland Railroad Club. He enjoyed coffee each week with his former Western employees. He was an avid sports fan, and model train collector. He especially enjoyed showing his train collection to children.
He worked 41 years for the Western Insurance Company, retiring in 1989. After his retirement, he spent much of his time volunteering to various agencies. Don was a man of few words but when he spoke; his words were well worth hearing.
In addition to his wife, Oda, Don is survived by his two sons, Darrell Keeney and wife, Sonya, of Tulsa, Okla., and Dale Keeney and wife, Kathy, of Bartlesville, Okla.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Morrison and husband, Bob, Estelee Simpson and husband, Carney; and a brother, Kenneth Keeney, all of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents.
