Robert Ray Shrakes, 82, a resident of Fort Scott, died Monday, June 27, 2011, at Medicalodges in Fort Scott.
He was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Bartlesville, Okla., the son of Clyde E. Shrakes and Mary M. Schmidt Shrakes.
He first married Stella Holt, and they were later divorced. He later married Norma Bennett; she preceded him in death.
Mr. Shrakes had worked as a truck driver and also in the oil fields. He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing, as well as motorcycles and convertibles.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Rasmussen, Moundville, Mo., and Debra Bohannan, Shidler, Okla.; and a son, Robert R. Shrakes Jr., McAllister, Okla.
Also surviving are two brothers, Johnny Barr, Washington state, and Delbert Barr, Fort Scott; a sister, Goldie Hinrichs, Baldwin City, Kan.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and George Shrakes, and a grandson.
There was cremation.
Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.
