Water crane coin machine on the fritz

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Residents who rely on the water crane located at the corner of Eighth and Wilson streets will have to face a bit of inconvenience for a short time as the coin machine is malfunctioning.

According to city officials, the crane's coin machine is not dispensing coins properly. The crane can still be used, however, the hours of operation have temporarily been cut. Residents can get water from the crane Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Because the coin machine is not working, those requesting water should contact the water department by calling (620) 223-8133 and a city worker will meet them at the water crane to dispense the water. Water can also be obtained on Saturday and Sunday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. by calling (620) 224-8873.

Local residents can get 100 gallons of water from the facility for 75 cents. City officials said that at least 15,000 gallons of water are sold at that location each month.

Officials said the city plans to have someone look at the coin machine on Friday and they hope to get it operational again as soon as possible.
