He was born Oct. 2, 1940, the son of Vernon Keller and Mildred Louise Bell Prather. He graduated from Southwest High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1958. He was an avid baseball player and outstanding track athlete.
He was a member of the 440 relay team which held the state record for 10 years. He attended the University of Missouri on a track scholarship. He was awarded the outstanding athlete in the Kansas City area award in 1958.
He married Carol Sue Handley on Oct. 21, 1961. Jack worked as the manager of the Fort Scott Grain Elevator for 33 years. He loved bass fishing and was a past member of the Fort Scott Bass Club.
Survivors include his wife Carol of the home; one son, Greg Prather and wife Kerrie, Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Jill Lynn Sims, Rogers, Ark.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Sims and Garrett and Baylee Prather. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Cheney Witt Chapel from 1 p.m. until leaving for the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
