POYNER

Robert William Poyner, 87, Richards, Mo., died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Fort Scott Manor, Fort Scott, Kan., after an illness of a few months.

He was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Richards, Mo., the son of Leo (Buzz) Poyner and Elsie Pearl Burris Poyner.

On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Grace A. Smith in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and she preceded him in death Dec. 15, 1981.

On Sept. 9, 1982, he married Veta F. Villers in Richards, Mo., and she preceded him in death May 3, 1995.

Mr. Poyner was a lifelong resident of Richards and Vernon County, Mo. He was a Navy veteran and served during WW II. He worked 25 years for the Missouri Highway Department until his retirement.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Scottish Rite and Masonic Lodge No. 495 in Richards.

Survivors include, two sons, Jerry Poyner, Fort Scott, and Lynn Villers, Pleasanton, Kan.; three daughters, Cheryl Culp, Perry, Kan., Debbie Archer, Deerfield Mo., and Linda Lundy, also of Deerfield; two daughters-in-law, Linda Poyner, Fort Scott, and Connie Villers, Pleasanton; one son-in-law, Vance Archer, Deerfield; grandchildren, Jeff Poyner, Kirk Poyner, Vanessa Poyner and Kam Poyner, all of Fort Scott, Kan., Paul Lundy, Nevada, Mo., Brian Lundy and Grace Lundy, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Morgan Richards, Perry, Kan.; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (Tootie) Meek and Martha Cook, both of Fort Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both spouses, two brothers, Charles Poyner, and Myrle Poyner, and one grandson, Eric Poyner.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., with Rev. Bill Smith officiating.

Military honors will be provided by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 of Fort Scott.
