Graduations held in Bronson and Fort Scott

100 YEARS AGO

(1911)

Yesterday and last night, Bronson turned over its every resource of entertainment to the students who were given diplomas for work at the high school in that city. It was a day of good fellowship and seniors were the center of attention. The 11 graduates include Abbie Ford, Mollie Camp, William Drake, Carrie Johnston, Faye Irene Thompson, Ethel Perry, Mary Helen Rohles, Mabel Holeman, Emilie Heaton, Lonna Brown and Lois Matter.

75 YEARS AGO

(1936)

Mrs. Mona Page, county superintendent, has announced that graduation exercises for eighth-grade students of the schools outside of Fort Scott will be set for next Saturday afternoon at the Ware school. All children who are to receive their diplomas at that time are requested by Mrs. Page to be at Ware School by 12:30 in the afternoon for rehearsal. It is expected that the number of graduates who will receive diplomas will be about 200.

Chief of Police R.L. Wells and Officers Hyle, Decker and Craig raided five rooming houses in Fort Scott Saturday night. The places were the Wallace Hotel, 11 1/2 Market St.; the O.K. Rooms, 110 E. Wall; Smith Apartments, 201 1/2 Market St.; Lockwood Hotel, 210 N. National Ave.; and Clyde Hale Apartments at Oak Street and National Avenue. Officers found some liquor at the Hale place. The Smith Apartments were found to be a house of nuisance. Nothing was found at the other three places.

(By the Associated Press) -- Plunging gasoline prices drove down consumer prices 3.3 percent in April, the third consecutive monthly decline and the biggest in 37 years, the Labor Department said today.

Leading the energy cost declines was an 11.3 percent drop in gasoline prices.
