MOUND CITY -- Jayhawk-Linn swept Uniontown's softball team in a make-up doubleheader here Friday.

The opening game went 12 innings before Jayhawk-Linn won 11-10. The Jayhawks went on to a 6-inning, run-rule victory in the second game 12-2.

Jayhawk-Linn held a 3-0 lead after 2 innings of the opener and led 10-8 after six.

The Eagles (12-4) scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the score.

In the bottom half of the inning, starting pitcher Tayler Shook suffered an injury and had to be replaced. Taylor Wade, who normally pitches the second game of most doubleheaders, came on and allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.

Shook, Britney Stokes, and Hope Jurgensen had 3 hits each for the Eagles. Wade, Tiffany Poyner and Torrie Hathaway had 2 hits each.

"I am proud of the way the girls battled during that entire ball game," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "They left everything on the field."

The Jayhawks won the game with a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt that led to an error that allowed the runner to score.

In the second game, Jayhawk-Linn scored 4 runs in the second inning and again in the third as Wade (4-2) was unable to keep up the pace. A freshman, Wade hadn't pitched more than 7 innings in a day prior to Friday. As the only other pitcher available for Uniontown, she ended up pitching 12 innings.

The Eagles will face Humboldt in another non-league doubleheader Thursday.
