Neosho County sweeps 'Hounds

Neosho County swept a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader from Fort Scott Community College at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex Tuesday by scores of 2-1 and 11-6.

Fort Scott's only run in the opener came in the first inning when Cassie Sharon drove in Aubrie Duval with a single to center. Neosho County (12-13 East, 23-16 overall) got both its runs in the top of the third.

Sharon and Megan Feldman each had 2 hits for the Greyhounds (6-18, 11-32). Sharon also pitched all 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.

Neosho County pitcher Kyllie Sill allowed 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9.

The Panthers scored once in the top of the first inning of the second game. The 'Hounds claimed the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring 3 times.

Sarah Donnell singled to right and Sharon doubled to the center-field fence. Alix Price reached on an infield hit, which scored Donnell. Cates singled up the middle, scoring Sharon. Feldman grounded into a fielder's choice, which eliminated Price at third. But Maddie Koch came up with a base hit to right field to bring Cates in.

Neosho County took advantage of a pair of Fort Scott errors to score 5 in the third, going up 6-1and taking control of things.

Price and Cates each went 3 for 4 for the 'Hounds while Koch was 2 for 3 and Sharon went 2 for 4, hitting a solo home run in the sixth.

Fort Scott hosts Cloud County this afternoon at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader that was suspended due to storms on March 19. The first game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning tied at 3-3.
