COWLISHAW

Leonard George Cowlishaw, age 87, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday morning, April 19, 2011, at his home. He was born December 16, 1923, in Nevada, Mo., the son of Leonard and Margaret Baldwin Cowlishaw.

He married Jeanette Allene Sandifer on April 6, 1950, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1994.

Leonard was a self-employed painter and wall paper hanger. He enjoyed collecting, especially guns and knives.

Survivors include three sons, Leonard A. Cowlishaw, Jim Cowlishaw and John Cowlishaw, all of Fort Scott; two daughters, Jeanie Peterson, Mound City, Kan., and Jane Abarr, Wellsville, Kan.; and one sister, Betty Austin, Fort Scott. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Harbeston and a grandson, Matthew Bogaty.

Pastor Larry Stevicks will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011, in the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Mercy Home Health, and may be sent to the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
