Jackie Laverne Moore, age 76, resident of Augusta, Kan., died Friday, April 1, 2011, at his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Vernon County, Mo., the son of Timothy Moore and Gertrude Allen Moore. He married Dorothy Denton on May 3, 1953. Jackie spent 10 years in the United States Air Force from October 1951 to October 1961. From 1967 to 1996, he owned and operated J&W Transport Company, a mobile home transport and set up business. He was a member of Hope Community Church in Andover, Kan.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, of the home; his mother, Gertrude Moore, Fort Scott; two sons, Michael Moore and wife Michelle, Seattle, Washington and Shawn Moore, Augusta, Kansas. Also surviving is a brother, Benjamin Moore, Riverton, Kan.; three sisters, Janiece Toms, Uniontown, Kan., Sandra Hartzfeld, Bartlesville, Okla., and Phyllis Lambert, Fredonia, Kan.; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Chaplain James Stradley will conduct graveside services at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the U.S. National Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
