Mary Elizabeth Dingwall, a longtime resident of Royal Oak and Troy, Mich., died Feb. 5, 2011 at Waltonwood of Royal Oak. She was 86 years old.
Mary was born Sept. 21, 1924 in Fort Scott, Kan., to parents Mark and Esther (nee French) Weeks.
She graduated in 1942 from Fort Scott High School and obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University in 1946.
She married her sweetheart, Joseph Dingwall, on Feb. 9, 1951 in her hometown.
Mary was a member of St. David Episcopal Church in Southfield for the past 40 years and a volunteer at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, for 20 years.
She was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Fund at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
In her final years, she also frequently volunteered at her assisted living communities, especially with projects supporting our men and women serving overseas.
Mary enjoyed camping, cooking, sewing, making candy, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was an awesome wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
Mrs. Dingwall is survived by her loving children, Carol (Joseph) Herzberg, Helen (Stephen) Zylstra, Mark (Lori) Dingwall and Barbara (Paul) Veselenak; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Esther Anne (Glen) Sewell.
Mrs. Dingwall is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Dingwall, who died May 29, 2009.
