Mary Jo Stoughton, age 90, resident of 502 Fairway, Fort Scott, and more recently of Fort Scott Medicalodges, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Mercy Health Center.

She was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Fort Scott, the daughter of James Alvin Sipe and Lida Melissa Johnson Sipe.

Mary married Milton J. Stoughton on July 6, 1939 at Iola, Kan. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2006.

She worked for 23 years as office manager for Stoughton Electric until her retirement.

Previous employment included Bourbon County Courthouse, Citizens Bank, J. C. Penney, Ernie Williams Music Store and Master Printers.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fulton and currently Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Fort Scott.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Stoughton and wife Nancy, Fort Scott; three grandchildren, Fred Stoughton and wife Diana, Fort Scott, Susan Byram and husband Kevin, Sheldon, Mo.; and Jason Stoughton, Lawrence, Kan.; five great-grandchildren, Mack, Mitchell, and Morgan Stoughton, Fort Scott; and Haley and Hanna Byram, Sheldon, Mo.

Also surviving are two great-great grandchildren, Aiden and Brody Stoughton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, Alvin, Wayne, Harold, Calvert and Olen Sipe.

There was cremation under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel.

Father Darrin May will conduct graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, at Evergreen Cemetery.
