Clara Fern Snyder, age 79, former resident of 1809 E. First Street, Fort Scott, and more recently of Fort Scott Manor, died Friday, February 25, 2011, at Mercy Health Center.

She was born October 21, 1931, in Bourbon County, Kansas the daughter of Vernon and Gladys Wise. Clara was a 1951 graduate of Fulton High School. She married Russell C. Snyder on Sept. 1, 1955 in Fort Scott. Clara was retired as a nurse aide for both the Mercy Hospital and Hillside Guest Home. Earlier she attended the Community Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Russell, of the home; one son, Charles Snyder, Redfield, Kansas; a daughter, Shelly Shoemaker, Pittsburg, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Marybelle Hall, Uniontown, Kansas. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jordan, Lakin, Christopher and Jacob Snyder; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Pastor Tim O'Neal will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
