Tuesday, February 22, 2011

PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team finally got its season underway here over the weekend by moving a four-game series with North Central Missouri to Jaycee Ball Park here.

The Greyhounds swept the Pirates in a pair of doubleheaders. Saturday's scores were 3-2 in the opener and 14-2 in the second game. Sunday's scores were 5-1 and 2-1.

The 'Hounds moved their games here to take advantage of the Field Turf infield surface since the weekend forecast called for a chance of rain. FSCC has already seen 10 games (five doubleheaders) called off this season due to weather.

The Greyhounds also played ar Crowder (Mo.) Monday, losing 12-2.

Fort Scott will try to play at Lions Field for the first time this season Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds will host the Evangel University junior varsity for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

The Greyhounds are also planning to host three doubleheaders this coming weekend. Each day, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the plan is to face Southwestern Iowa at 11 a.m. each day and Century College (Minn.) at 2 p.m. each day. At this point, the forecast calls for cool temperatures but no rain this weekend.
